Stories from the Road – Part I – July 22, 2008

(transcribed by Joe Lando Fan Penni)

JOE LANDO: Hey everybody, it’s Joe Lando calling in. Hope you’re all having a great summer. Like I had promised before, I said I’d call in while I’m on my family vacation and let you know how we’re doing, our progress, and if we’re having fun or not. And because of -- I couldn’t get out my cell phone and call in real time, when things are happening, I decided to write down some notes and let you kind of follow along, if you care, and let you know about the insaneness of taking four kids, a wife, Suburban, and doing 2,000 miles plus in four days…I’ll let you know what that’s like. So having to average about 500 miles a day, it’s a … it was going to be interesting. And some of my notes from the first day in what I like to call possibly the Lando Family Travel Log, or the -- here’s my favorite -- the Lando Family Audio Diary, which I go for the acronym on that one, the L-FAD, or just Stories From the Road, whatever you’d like to call it.

Here we go…notes from the first day:

Day 1, July 12th, we depart 9 a.m. from our house. Let’s see, we drop off Emma and Billie – that’s our dogs – at their Grandparents’ house. We give them a list of instructions and plenty of plastic bags to pick up on their walks. 12:30ish, we shoot past Las Vegas, Nevada. There’s not a lot of people on the road and there’s few police spotted. So we make good time and we arrive at our destination, which is St. George, Utah, at 4 o’clock p.m., just like I had hoped and predicted.

It s a balmy 98 degrees outside, it’s dry, it’s hot like a blowtorch. And the kids hit the pool with mom while I take the Suburban to get fueled up and clean the windshields and do all that fun stuff; check the oil and the tires, go all around. A hundred and 27 American dollars and 36 cents later, the Beast is full, and I decide to drive around a little bit more, ‘cause that’s what I like to do. I look at real estate and property, things like that, because I like to just do that in my free time; it’s a thing.

Let’s see, and then -- then later I call Kirsten who -- I meet the family over at Applebee’s for dinner and we have a great dinner. And then afterwards, it’s a beautiful night, we take a nice time – a nice nighttime walk with the kids. We watch this thunderstorm approaching across the desert. There’s lots of lightning. The kids enjoy that, of course. And it’s the perfect temperature, it’s like 80 degrees outside, there’s a little wind, and it’s just a beautiful night and it’s a great way to end our first day. And tomorrow morning, it’s up early, it’s the longest day of the trip; we have to do over 580 miles and get to Vail, Colorado.

And I’ll call in tomorrow with notes from that adventure. And I hope you all have a great day and I’ll talk to you later.

Bye.

JOE LANDO:  Hey everybody, Joe Lando here.  Just wanted to say hi and wish you all a happy summer.  The Lando family gang here is happy school's out and the kids are all looking forward to going to the beach and having fun.

We’re going to take a long summer vacation together cross-country, to Chicago.   I’m going to keep in touch with Judy and let you guys know about our travels.

And I just want to thank you all for your continued support.  I know I’ve been missing in action and I apologize.  I’ve been trying my best to get myself out there.  It's been a rough time lately, in television, so we’re going to get through it and we’re going to get back on the air.  And, I am always grateful for your support and your kind thoughts and your good wishes to my family.  It really means a lot to me and I want you guys to know that.

And we’ll be working hard when we get back from our vacations to put something out there for you to watch and enjoy. I promise you I’m going to try my best and hardest to get it together and to put something as good as Higher Ground or Dr. Quinn back on the air.  These things just take time. And bear with me, I promise to be back soon.

So, again, thank you always for your support.  You guys are always in my thoughts and be looking for me on TV.  And you all have a happy and safe summer, and we’ll speak to you soon.

And, if you have any questions or comments, send them to the web site.  I am in touch with Judy every so often. So, you know, hopefully I’ll be able to talk to some of you and answer your questions. And, again, thank you and have a safe and happy summer.  And I look forward to seeing you at the movies, all right?

Take care folks.

Bye-bye.

(transcribed by Joe Lando Fan Penni)

JOE LANDO:  Hey everybody. How are you doing? It’s Joe Lando and I just wanted to take a chance and say hi to you.

I know its been a long time since you’ve heard from me last, but I was just on the phone with Judy, and she said give you a call and ramble on, and say things, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah -- and there’s a horn going off in the background, Judy, and -- (giggling &  laughing) -- I lost my train of thought -- (laughing hysterically)… I’ll call back and start again.

Bye.
