Following the tragic murder of a beautiful young model, newspaper reporter Jennifer Kingsley (Watson) becomes convinced that Raymond Crawford (Lando), currently serving a prison sentence for a similar murder committed four years earlier, is innocent, and that the real killer is still on the loose. Jennifer becomes obsessed with the case, writing about it each day in the pages of The Examiner, the newspaper for which she works. Her hope is that Raymond's case will be reopened, and that the real killer will be caught before any more women are victimized.

Jennifer tries, unsuccessfully, to solicit the help of her former lover, Police Lieutenant Henry Dexter (Coyote), a seasoned detective who remains convinced that Crawford is guilty. As a result of Jennifer's newspaper stories, the eyewitness who identified Crawford recants her earlier testimony and he is released from prison. Dexter's concern for Jennifer's safety grows when she and Crawford become romantically involved and he does everything within his power to try to convince Jennifer that Crawford is the killer.

Shortly after Crawford's release from prison, a third model is murdered, and Jennifer begins to wonder if Dexter might be right about Raymond. Fueled by Dexter's continuing accusations, Jennifer's fears mount after her apartment is mysterously broken into. Finally, when the key witness in Raymond's case is murdered following a desperate call to Jennifer, she is ready to believe the worst about Raymond, until the real killer decides to make his move on her, and Raymond becomes the only one who can save her.
